ISRO Soon To Power Indian Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicle dream for the India automotive market is the latest buzzword among the manufacturers, though with the deadline of 2030 being cancelled has brought the sigh of relief among the manufacturers. As now they can focus on making automotives compliant with BS-VI.

Deadline for the electric vehicles might have been removed, but the dream and the working on the project is still intact. Now dreams seems not so farfetched as our government has asked Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to allow interested players including from private sector to obtain the technology for mass production of Lithium-Ion batteries for electric vehicles.

The lithium-ion battery technology ISRO developed was originally meant for space applications, but it has finally agreed to transfer them at a cost to interested companies in order to promote mass production of e-vehicles in India.

The glitch is that battery manufacturers will need to pay 10 million to ISRO as a one-time technology transfer fee. Thereby some experts are of the view that the electric vehicle technology is still in the development stage and the cost is substantially higher. Besides, the ecosystem for e-vehicles is not yet ready, charging stations are not in place, the cost of the battery itself is high.

Another concern is the flammability of the lithium-ion battery. In view of weather conditions, this is a technological challenge and cooling the battery will raise operational costs. Thereby electric vehicles, in view of their cost, will justify deployment only as public transport buses, taxis and three-wheelers. Hence ISRO and Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) have tied up to help develop low-cost lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.

The cabinet secretary has asked ISRO to create a framework for enabling even interested private players to obtain the technology for mass production.

With all the steps government and manufacturers are taking its not far, when you will be driving a fully electric automotive in India. But till that day comes, play your part in making India pollution free, by acquiring BS-IV compliant used vehicles from Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL).

Starting From January 25th Used Cars to Get Cheaper

All thanks to the new tax rates that are applicable from 25th January, resulting in pre-owned cars getting cheaper in India. The move announced in the recent GST Council meeting is expected to give a boost to the sluggish sales in the used car market with the new GST rate decreased from 28% to 18% for medium and large used cars and SUVs, and 12% on small used cars.

The council made a number of revisions to the tax rate on 20 items including used vehicles. Under the revised decision, GST rates on used cars have been reduced, while cess was removed across several categories. The move is supposed to give a big push to the used car segment that accounts for a substantial number of sales every year.

These new GST rates will only be applicable when a used car dealer sells a car to an individual and not on an individual to individual deal.

The GST cut will apply to all types of old and used motor vehicles on the margin of the supplier, subject to the condition that no input tax credit of central excise duty/value added tax or GST paid on such vehicles has been availed by him.

Besides used cars, the GST council also slashed the tax rates on public transport buses that source energy from the green fuel. In addition, the GST Council announced that Cess on ambulances will also be abolished completely, as against the earlier rate of 15%.

Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) - The leader of the used automobile market in the country, with latest GST rates is expected to dispose the largest numbers of used vehicles and equipment, as company offers the best line up of used vehicles and equipment of every make and model in the country through its 70+ well established Automalls and 150+ bidding locations in every nook and corner.

Scooters to Outpace the Overall Two-wheeler Industry

Today, the introduction of automatic transmission in scooters, increasing urbanization, better roads and a growing number of women consumers are helping turn the wheels in favor of scooters. In the past five years alone, the share of scooters in the overall two-wheeler market in the country has risen at annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20%, whereas motorcycle sales have expanded in low single digits.

In first nine months of Financial Year 2017-18, scooter sales grew by 18.5 per cent, whereas overall two-wheeler sales grew 11.5 per cent. At such outstanding growth rate we can say that the wheels now appear to be turning for scooters to reclaim their leadership status in India’s personal transport industry.

The country’s biggest metropolitan centers now show a distinct preference for scooters. In the past couple of years, one in every two two-wheelers sold in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai is a scooter. The statistics are similar for other aspiring metros, such as Pune, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.

This gender neutral mode of transportation is mostly the first choice of consumers in rural and semi-urban areas, as it’s the growth from these areas, which is about to outpace the overall two-wheeler industry.

Now, the scooter is increasingly becoming a robust alternative to the mass-market motorcycle. The Activa brand of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has become top seller in FY17.

Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) - The largest used vehicles and equipment is the No.1 provider of best in class used two-wheelers in the country. So, visit your nearby Automall to go through the huge inventory of used two-wheelers of every make and model at your disposal.

Learn the Emergency Auto-Mechanic Skills from Shriram Automall

It can be difficult to make your own auto repairs if you don't know the basics. As mechanics have their own lingo, tools, and specifications. Thereby Shriram Automall India Limited has brought some emergency or routine maintenance tips that will serve you in a long run.

So, let's explore some of the vehicle repairs that you can easily do at home, which will not only save you a lot of money but will also save you if you end up in a sticky situation.

In an Emergency

It's a good idea for every driver to know how to jump start a dead battery because calling a tow truck in to do it can waste both time and money. And in case you are not able to start it even after trying, learning how to properly use tow straps is key to making this happen without damaging either vehicle and to keep everyone safe.

1. Park the running car next to the dead car so the jumper cables can reach both batteries.
2. Turn off both the engines.
3. Now start the car with the good battery and leave it running. If the battery in the first car was really badly drained, it may help to leave them connected for a minute with the good car running before you try to start the dead car.

Now, turn the key in the dead car to start and it should fire right up.

Ø  How to properly use tow straps?
A tow strap is a strong nylon strap with hooks hard-sewn into each end. Most vehicles have a solid mounting point in the rear of the car that is usually attached to the bumper mounting points or nearby, and if a vehicle has a trailer hitch there are steel loops there for mounting a hook; either of these locations will provide plenty of structural support for most towing operations.
1. Attach the tow strap to the mounting hook on the car being towed and the car that is towing.
2. Now that you have both ends securely hooked in, you're ready to pull.

Basic DIY Car Repairs

For some car repairs, you may be better off getting it to the mechanic. However, there are a number of things that you can do in your own garage. Some tasks like changing your oil or flushing the coolant are good DIY projects that can save a lot of money each year.

Beyond regular maintenance, almost anyone can change a headlight bulb or any of rear lights. For these jobs, it's a good idea to have the repair manual so you don't turn a small issue into a big problem.

Many home mechanics can also tackle things like plugging a tire, replacing spark plugs, and even changing a turn signal relay. Though, we don't suggest taking on those projects unless you know how to check your oil or top off your windshield washer fluid first.

With help of Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) you can learn to use on board diagnostics (OBD) to help yourself find these problems quickly.

For more such information you can click the link below and go through our blog posts. And at the same time to acquire or dispose a used vehicle or equipment you can also register yourself by clicking the link.

Wearing Half-Helmet or Headgear without ISI Mark Will Be Considered Helmetless!

Now, two wheelers riders will have to take a close look at the type of helmet they are using. As Bangalore city police on Thursday asked two-wheeler riders, including those on pillion, to wear only helmets with ISI mark.

Police commissioner of the state has given two-wheeler riders time till January 31 to buy headgears with ISI mark. If not from February 1, those wearing helmets without ISI mark will be penalized and they'd be treated as riding helmetless and will be charged with the prescribed fine for 'helmetless' riders i.e. Rs 100.

The drive is part of a state-wide endeavor to deter riders from using half-helmets and, instead, go for safer headgear of assured ISI quality. As headgears that cover the whole face come with ISI mark, Police consider other helmets as 'half-helmets' or those not conforming to BIS.

Not just that in UP with an attempt to curb the rising number of road accident deaths in the state, almost all of which the traffic department believes are a result of drivers not following rules, the government has decided to observe 'helmet and seat belt day' every Wednesday.

Traffic departments across the state, along with the transport department, will jointly conduct checks for helmets on two-wheeler riders and seat belts in four-wheelers. According to data from the traffic department, there were as many as 19,320 road accidents in UP in 2016, of which 59% were due to people not wearing helmets.

Also, wearing helmets has been made mandatory for all pillion riders across the state, under section 129 (wearing of protective headgear) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

So, let’s come together and help government in this initiative of making Indian roads safe for driving.
While doing so, if you are looking forward to acquire or dispose used vehicle or equipment but have no time to visit your nearby Automall, register yourself simply by clicking the link below or by downloading our very own MySAMIL Mobile App.

New Year's Resolutions for Your Car

2017, has been a great year for the automotive industry, though it bought many challenges along with it. Yet industry dealt with them and stepped into year 2018, with a robust demand for passenger vehicles.

While people are busy setting their resolutions to lose weight and travel more, ShriramAutomall India Limited (SAMIL) look forward to help people fulfill the resolution of taking better care of their beloved automotives.

So, here are some valuable tips to start off the year with healthy car right way.

1. Get your vehicle's body into shape
Most people resolve to get their body into better shape in the New Year. Why not make the same resolution for your vehicle? A simple vehicle maintenance regime -- including measuring your tire pressure, checking for leaks once a month, taking your vehicle in for regular tune-ups and reading the owner's manual -- will help you save money and fuel, and protect the environment.

2. Be a fuel-efficient driver
Aggressive driving and speeding can increase your fuel consumption by as much as 35%. Slowing down, giving yourself more time and planning your routes ahead of time are just a few of the many things you can do to save money and fuel, and lower your vehicle's emissions.

3. Kick the idling habit
New Year's is a great time to start kicking bad habits like unnecessary idling. It's bad for your wallet, your vehicle, the environment and the health of people around you.

4. Avoid using automatic car starters
They encourage idling and waste a lot of fuel. Even on the coldest winter days (and as long as your windows are defrosted) today's electronically controlled engines allow you to drive away 30 seconds after starting the engine.

5. Check your tire pressure
Your tires need special attention during winter. Cold temperatures decrease the air pressure in tires, which adds to the rolling resistance caused by snow and slush. Measure tire pressure regularly, especially after a sharp drop in temperature. For improved fuel efficiency and enhanced safety, give your tires the attention they need.

During 2018, PVs to grow by 9-11% and Two-wheelers by 9%

In CY2018, Most of the Indian automotive segments are expected to grow in high single-digit or in early double-digits posting an average 8-9% growth.

Passenger vehicles are likely to continue their uptick sales backing on utility vehicles with a growth of 9-11%. Two-wheelers, on the other hand, are expected to plateau out at 9% while the growth in medium and heavy commercial vehicles is pegged at about 8-9%.

In the short-term, light commercial vehicles (LCV) are expected to deliver a better showing than M&HCVs, due to improving economy and need for intermediate distance transportation. Thereby Indian GDP will grow at 7.2% in 2017-18, compared to 6.8%in 2016-17 giving the required leeway for varied sectors. India has already posted a recovery in economic growth at 6.3% during the second quarter of FY18 (July-September 2017), up from 5.7% during the first quarter (April-June 2017).

In addition, there are positive signals of the rural markets coming back on track after two good monsoon years, better crops and more disposable income in the hands of the rural populace raising the demand for motorcycles, utility vehicles, three-wheelers and LCVs in this region.

Fresh investments in infrastructure and road development will give a further fillip to the commercial vehicle sector as will stricter regulatory norms related to vehicle length and overloading.

This has been coupled with a promising showing in the urban markets, which are expected to sustain this strong momentum well into the New Year 2018.

With new passenger/ commercial/two-wheelers vehicle industry rising, we can witness the robust growth of used automotive industry as well. Shriram Automall IndiaLimited (SAMIL) is the leading name to acquire best pre-owned commercialvehicles of every make and model in India.
